So first off, we’ve got Lt. Commander Steven J. McGarrett:

• Steve’s a Navy SEAL
• Steve’s family deal is a massive part of the show, so here are the basics. The show opens with his dad being killed and Steve returning to his native Hawaii to investigate his father’s death. Like all of my favorite men, Steve has some serious Daddy!Issues (with capital letters) because after his mother was killed when he was a teenager his dad sent him off to Annapolis to become a big bad SEAL. But that doesn’t stop Steve from still respecting the hell out of his father even though he’s angry and hurt after all these years and it sure as hell doesn’t stop him from investigating his father’s murder. Steve’s also got a sister, Mary, who you’ll meet later briefly, who is rad as fuck and also a huge pain in the ass but someone Steve absolutely adores.
• The show largely revolves around Steve’s investigation into his parents’ deaths.
• Steve’s Kamaaina— he grew up in Hawaii.
• He’s got a hair-trigger and he’s smart as fuck, but not in a nerdy way.
• Steve McGarrett is VERY MUCH like Steve Rogers (tell me you didn’t see this coming) in that he will fight to the death for the things he thinks are right. In other ways, he is the epitome of Tony Stark: snarky, knows he’s “talented”, loves to give people he loves a hard time.
• Steve McGarrett, the “shoot first and ask questions later type of a guy.”

Enter, Danny “Danno” Williams:

• First thing you need to know about Danno Williams, he’s from New Jersey and he loves his daughter Grace more than anything else in the world, and he takes great pride in his hair.
• Second thing you need to know about Danno, he hates Hawaii, pineapples, and getting shot.
• Third thing about Danny, and possibly the most important: he can’t shut up to save his life.
• Danny is a detective from Jersey who moved to Hawaii when his ex-wife got re-married and took their daughter with her to the Islands. Grace is Danny’s life. They are best friends and their relationship is one of the best parts of this show.
• Danno Williams is smart as fuck and sassy as hell, which makes him a dangerous snarky motherfucker. He’s also a huge teddy bear.
• He tries and fails to keep his new partner under control, but he secretly loves every minute of it.

Meet Kono Kalakaua:

• Kono is the most badass chick on TV since Buffy & Starbuck.
• The first time we meet Kono she punches a Haole out for dropping in on her wave— she used to be a pro surfer before she joined the family business to become a cop.
• Kono doesn’t take anybody’s shit and even though she is hot as fuck she isn’t just eye-candy. I’d put money on her in a fight between her and McGarrett.
• She’s honest, faithful, brave, and the HBIC.

DO. NOT. FUCK. WITH. CHIN HO KELLY:

• Chin Ho History Lesson: He used to be partners with Steve’s dad. He was accused of taking money from the HPD and had his badge taken away.
• Chin Ho Kelly is the most honorable man in the state of Hawaii.
• Kono and Chin are cousins and best friends and Kono is the only person in their very large family who believes in Chin.
• One thing you need to never forget: He’s the glue that keeps their Five-0 family together and he will do anything for Five-0 because they are the only family he has left.

Other Important Characters:

• Governor Jameson
• Kamekona
• Max Bergman
• Lori Weston
• Joe White
• Cath Rollins
• Wo Fat

So, you want to know if there are any good slash ships? Grab some beers and have a seat, baby, here we go:

• In the world of H50 ships, McDanno reigns supreme.
• These two have more UST than you can shake a stick at.
• It’s almost infuriating.
• I take it back, it’s entirely infuriating.
• In the Five-0 fandom we call McDanno’s foreplay by a different name: Carguments.
• They even go on dates. You will get to know their first real date as “The Hike” or any variance of that name.
• Eyesex. All the time.
• Steve & Danny banter more than any other couple in TV history. I’m not kidding. They make love to each other with their snarky banter and witty remarks while they chase bad guys down at top speed in Danny’s car.
• That’s another thing I should mention: Steve drives Danny’s car. Yep.
• Steve occasionally picks Grace up from functions in which Danny can’t make it (one notable case when Danny is on the verge of death).
• Danny calls Steve “babe”. Okay, Danny calls lots of people “babe”, but it’s different with Steve, watch it and tell me I’m wrong.
• Especially because the one time Steve calls someone “babe” is when he and Danny are having eye sex with each other, and just after this, Steve shows up at headquarters sans Danny and crows about Danny having to run home to change his clothes.
• A WWII veteran declares Danny as Steve’s wife after a phone conversation between the two.
• Danny takes Steve to family functions as his date.
• Danny gets jealous when Steve’s old “Navy buddy” shows up.
• Danny just has serious jealousy issues anyway.
• At one point, Danny moves in with Steve.
• Steve teaches Danny to surf.
• 
• To add a little bit of angst to this: Steve temporarily breaks up with Danny when he leaves a “Dear John” letter for Danny in season 2. He comes back though, so it’s all happy homosexuals again.
• Danny lets Steve get away with way too much just to indulge him.
• Steve lies to a federal agent to help Danny in a family crisis.
• Those are just the physical aspects you can SEE on screen.
• This doesn’t include the emotional things about this ship you can only experience while watching the two of them together on screen.
• This also does not include the incredible chemistry Alex and Scott have with each other. They are best friends and it clearly shows. Alex used to yell: “Where’s my Danno!” before they finally cast Scotty in the role. (The more you know!)

There is also the Chin Ho/Danny OTP, the OT4, a few Wo Fat/McGarrett shippers, etc. If you’re into femslash, there’s Kono/Mary & Kono/Lori. But none of those ships are anywhere as big as McDanno.
